Black History Month is a time to gather in community, celebrate culture, and recognize the leaders working every day to strengthen our neighborhoods. Black History Month honors the often-overlooked contributions and achievements of trailblazing Black innovators, leaders, trendsetters, and pioneers to global civilization. Leaders like Civil Rights Activist and former US Senator, Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr., whose passing we mourn this week, but whose profound legacy we cherish and celebrate furthermore.
On Thursday, February 26th, Congressman Dan Goldman and Council Member Harvey Epstein will host a special Black History Month celebration at the Wilmer Jennings Art Gallery. The celebration will feature proclamations, performances, and art.
AFJ's Executive Director, Liz Frederick, is honored to be included alongside Maurice Rawls, Grand Street Settlement’s Deputy Director of Youth Programs, as part of this year’s Congressional Proclamation ceremony. Thank you to Congressman Dan Goldman and Council Member Harvey Epstein, Assembly Member Grace Lee, and New York State Senator Brian Kavanagh for creating space to uplift, empower, and celebrate Black leadership in the communities we represent.
Join us from 6:00-8:30 PM at 219 East 2nd Street & Avenue B. Come celebrate, connect, and honor the work happening across our City.
