In last week’s newsletter, we shared that our Friday night community dinners had made a comeback after a long pause due to the pandemic. This past Friday, Avenues for Justice (AFJ)took our dinners a notch further by hosting our annual holiday meal at our Harlem Community Center. Current and former Participants, along with the AFJ team, board members, and volunteers enjoyed a spread of turkey, pernil, chicken and tasty side dishes.
The fact that it was a celebratory evening didn’t stop some of our Participants from heading straight to our center’s computer lab to catch up on their Digital literacy self-paced modules. One Participant worked on three different areas to advance their abilities in computer usage and online research–studies that would also help them in school.
To help our families prepare for the holiday week, Assembly Member Harvey Epstein stopped by our Lower East Side Robert Siegal Center on Tuesday afternoon to help distribute turkeys, trimmings and chat with our Participants. Avenues for Justice distributed food and groceries to over 30 Participants and their families
Your support allows our community centers to be safe spaces where our Participants and their families can come together, bond over shared meals and get the resources which they need to enjoy the holiday season from our AFJ team and volunteers.
Avenues for Justice wishes all of you a safe holiday week.
