Last Friday, AFJ celebrated Juneteenth at our Harlem Community Center, featuring Chef Quie with the dynamic Charles Pan-Fried Chicken team, along with our Participants and friends.
This year, we celebrated with an afternoon of motivational speeches, spoken word poetry, and an overview of Juneteenth’s history and significance. The afternoon was topped off with a delicious spread prepared by Charles Pan-Fried Chicken of Juneteenth favorites such as fried chicken, collard greens, traditional desserts, and mac n’ cheese prepared by our Participants!
In addition to last Friday's workshop with Charles Pan-Fried Chicken, AFJ's corporate partner, Slickdeals, hosted a Juneteenth zoom for our staff and participants. Slickdeals' workshop featured Clint Smith, staff writer at The Atlantic and the author of the New York Times #1 Bestseller, How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning With the History of Slavery Across America, and also a 2021 National Book Critics Circle Award Winner for Nonfiction.
We are looking forward to continuing and building on the tradition of our Juneteenth celebration next year and greatly appreciate our continued partnership with Charles Pan-Fried Chicken and Slickdeals!
